Greater Lansing Area Sports
Hall of Fame
Welcome
Founded by the Sports and Recreation Committee of the Lansing Bicentennial Commission and inaugurated July 4,
1976, the Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame was established to honor our nation's first 200 years through the
celebration of Mid-Michigan's athletic legacy.  Through the vision of the Lansing Bicentennial Commission and three
long-time residents - Clayton Kowalk of the Lansing School District, Walt Lingo of Lansing Community College and
Burt Smith of Michigan State University - the Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame stands as a symbol of
achievement, commemorating the collective dedication and spirit of our athletic community.

aaaaaaaaaMessage from the Chairman
aalive and well. With the addition of 228 individual  inductees and
athe selection of 46 teams, not to mention a waiting list as long
aas your arm, and despite the financial challenges we face, the
acommittee members continue to keep their noses to the
agrindstone as we press forward.
aNow we have a new home at the Lansing Center where we can
aexpand and continue to grow into the Lansing area's most
aprestigious fraternity.  We love our new home and we look
aforward to a long and happy association with the Lansing
aCenter staff.  We are indeed fortunate to have this partnership
aas we move toward the future.

aName me one other place our size in this great country that has
aproduced as many talented athletes as we have right here in
athe Mid-Michigan area.  People like Magic Johnson, John Smoltz,
aCharlie Gehringer, Dave Porter, Judi Brown, Dean Look, Brad
aVan  Pelt, Todd Martin, Carol Hutchins, Kevin Jackson, Kip, Kelly
aand Kevin Miller, you get the picture . . . The list goes on and on.

aWe invite you to stop by and visit our Hall of Fame.
